6) A Note from Rayona

Hi Friends,
Well I'm just returning from another wonderful trip to Australia where our global community has just added another 35 alumni in Adelaide and Canberra. The participants came from the state and Federal governments as well as private industries representing telecommunications, banking, human resources, and financial & consulting services! We also conducted our second implementation meeting working with the government of New South Wales to implement their 50/50 initiative (50% women on all boards and commissions in the government) and the Canberra Women's Champions 5 X 5 initiative (achieve 5 women cabinet members in the federal government within 5 years--they have only had 1 in the past 100 years).

Australia continues to inspire us all as to what is possible when a small group of committed people say they can change the world.

I also conducted the first one-day "Leadership in Action" (LIA) graduate seminar for WLC alumni. Every single woman said it was a defining moment in their life and several said it was as powerful as the 3 days of WLC at a much deeper level. I will be conducting this program in Prince Edward Island in late April and will see if there is interest in conducting it in California later this year. We invite your input!

You are probably reading this as we complete the April WLC here in Santa Clara. At the end of this month, I head off to Prince Edward Island, Canada for both a WLC and a LIA. We continue to partner with Marie MacDonald and the PEI alumni as they transform their province from fishing and farming economy to a knowledge-based economy. She is another truly inspiring example of one person making a difference by taking a stand!

In May, I will be presenting at the Fast Company RealTime event in Philadelphia. This event focuses on bringing real tools from real people to their readers. Participants walk away from the gathering with not just new knowledge and innovative ideas, but also ways to implement those ideas into their daily lives. Tom Peters is also on the program and I will be meeting with him to discuss a strategic alliance with IWL. As an IWL alumnus you can receive a 10% discount for attending. For more information or registration go to: http://www.fastcompany.com/realtime.

With all that is happening in the current economic downturn I think it is imperative that you stay connected with a community of support. The IWL community is here for you as a resource, friend and thought partner in continuing to lead change in your organizations and your life outside of work. Please stay in touch, let us know how you are doing and if you need anything....love,

Rayona
