4) A Note from Rayona

Dear Friends,
The year 2000 is wrapping up. This is a great time to register the accomplishments and the value that you've contributed to your organizations and communities as well as for other aspects of your life.

In a panel discussion sponsored by Fast Company Magazine and Neuberger Berman Mutual Funds this past week, we discussed the difference between success and significance.

While there was great diversity of thought among the panelists, we ultimately defined success as those things that 'you say' are measures of things such as achieving goals, growing and developing as a leader and celebrating that fulfillment. Significance on the other hand, is that which starts a positive ripple effect outside of you and is sustained or enhanced by the organization and/or community

I invite you to register both your success and your significance for the year 2000. I would love for you to email it to Jennifer at jennifer@womensleadership.com when you complete it, if possible. Remember to use your 'past accomplishment register for value' sheet to assist in fleshing out the impact. In case you need it the URL to the form is:

Speaking of significance, we just completed the Women Leading Change for Women of Color sponsored by Charles Schwab Corporation. There were 21 attendees representing six companies. Stacy Cusulos and I led the three-day conversation and were deeply moved by the courage, depth and heart of the participants.

In the spirit of partnership I ask each of you to awaken the unconsciousness (both your own and others) of institutionalized racism and how it manifests itself in our organizations and communities. Find some way to reach out to a woman of color with whom you work and extend the hand of partnership in advancing her commitments.

Consider the possibility that none of us can be free and empowered until ALL of us are free and empowered. Bridging the subliminal chasm between white women and women of color is one of my key objectives for 2001.

As always, I end this letter with profound thanks for our partnership with each of you. Please stay in touch and join me in giving thanks for the blessed lives we live.

Love and warm wishes for happy holidays with family and friends.
