5) A Note from Rayon

Dear Friends,
I just returned from the Fast Company RealTime event where my presentation on contextual leadership was very well received. RealTime is unequivocally the best conference I have ever attended. Fast Company really knows how to have an impact and deliver value with innovative and energetic folks! IWL will be forming a coalition of alums to go next year, so let me know if you are interested.

There were two people who had a significant impact on me while I was there. Martin Luther King III was deeply inspiring and a real tribute to his father's legacy. When I asked him what we could do to eliminate institutionalized racism, he responded with two thoughts. The first is education and training so that people become more aware and the second is everyday action by each of us to see where we discriminate unconsciously. I invite you to join me in finding ways to do both of these as a regular leadership practice.

The other message was from Kevin Roberts, CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi, the leading advertising firm. His mission is to infuse love into our relationships with customers (and each other). Upon reflecting what that could look like, Jennifer and I are planning some new events (brown bag lunches at your companies and Leadership in Action, August 7th!) and would appreciate any input you have to offer as to how we can serve you better.

Another offer we have is that if any of your friends or colleagues register for the July 11-13 program between June 1 and July 10, they will receive a 50% discount! Please be sure they know to ask for our "summer offer." Imagine what it would be like to have a community of breakthrough & generous leaders around you.

This month, we also celebrate Father's Day and I invite you to acknowledge the men in your life that have made a difference for you as a leader. Whether it was your father, your manager, a colleague or whoever, let them know what their contribution to you made possible and what other requests you have for them as far as bringing the equality of men and women to the world of work.

As you know the Institute for Women's Leadership is committed to providing a global community of practice in the discipline of "Contextual Leadership". We ask you to keep developing yourself in this discipline and share it with others. In addition to offering Leadership in Action (a one day, alumnae-only program, Aug. 7, we are also offering for the first time as a public program, WLC for Women of Color on October 10- 12 and Partners Leading Change, our co-ed class, December 5-7. Please let your friends and colleagues know of this great opportunity. We've had incredible successes conducting these programs inside of organizations for two years.

Check out the descriptions and testimonials for each on our website Women of Color and Partners Leading Change Let us know if we can forward more information on to you about these two seminars.

Also, please don't hesitate to contact us if you would like to have an introductory session for colleagues in your organizations (brown-bag style). Please call Jennifer at the office 650.366.7350 if you are interested in this or a reunion get-together at your company.

Have a good summer, keep in touch and let us know what you are up to and if you need anything from us.

Love, Rayona
