Sindri Anderson, an IWL graduate, reports:

"After taking a one-year break from my work life (highly recommended, by the way!), I am launching an organizational consulting firm: Enact Global Consulting. The name evokes the idea of enabling action , and our mission is to help organizations live their dreams by equipping employees to carry out vision and strategy. In addition to employee/leadership development, coaching, and facilitation, we also offer a specific transition process for companies who recognize that something really different is called for in the area of performance management. We also work with HR leaders to assess their human capital strategy and ensure that all people processes are aligned in service of the business goals.

It's a partnership with a long time friend and colleague of mine. We are both eager to author our own careers after fifteen years as internal OD leaders, and plan to build the company over time to employ others. I have already received such generous support from this wonderful network as we navigate the waters of starting a company. It has really helped me with the courage side of this adventure!"

Marge Jensen, owner, TouchStone Marketing and IWL graduate shares her journey:

"My business is more than a name, it is an attitude. And do I ever have it! Jensen Productions, a marketing communications company was started in 1997 and experienced rapid growth and what I called success the first 5 years. So what happened these last two years? It has been two years of growth exceeding double digits. However, it did not go to the bottom line in sales, it went to the bottom line in experience, refocusing and reorganizing my company.

The company name was changed to TouchStone Marketing. The priority was to market the company and services, with the same ruthlessness we do for all our clients - using experience and focusing on outcome. We walk the talk. The efforts of networking, Toastmasters, Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors and community based activities resulted in awards and new clients:
  • SBA Small Business award in 2004
  • CDA Crystal Eagle Award for Marketing Danville .

TouchStone Marketing is a virtual organization of the best writers, designers, PR and media experts who understand the importance of quality and timeliness. We work with a diverse range of Business to Business clients from startup companies with great ideas, to corporate executives, all who are looking for increased sales. We refine the marketing focus and strategic thinking. It's not about design; it is about delivering the right message to the right people with impact.

These last two years have reaffirmed that I am energized by the demands of thinking outside the box, demanding timelines and the success of a job well done. I love the people I work with and their creative energy that feeds my spirit .

As Rayona said, it is easier to be on top of the mountain and seeing all the options, rather than standing at the bottom, looking up and only seeing one overpowering route to the top. It just takes courage."

  • Melissa McClaren, Chief Development Officer at Decision Education Foundation and IWL graduate shares: "I recently acted as volunteer mentor to an outstanding young woman who led a decision-making 'skillshop' as part of the Girls Economic Power Day in Palo Alto , CA . They raised and donated over $6000 to benefit Girls, Inc. (formerly Girls Clubs); on January 1 they had no donations in hand, so their fundraising effectiveness speaks for itself.

The group, of mostly high school sophomore girls, led a full day of workshops with mentors recruited by LifeMoxie. I wish you could have seen the impact on the 73 girls who learned about credit, goal setting, and of course, how to make a good decision. Each one of the young leaders would impress you. They have already begun to plan a second event for Fall. [editor note: There is a Women's Economic Power Day coming up, too! Please check it out.]
