Keeping track of our 'moving and shaking' community.
Update us with your news! Sandy Caldwell, WLF 4/94 , is making her heart’s work her career. She shares that she’s now a full-time doula (or childbirth support mentor) and Birthing from Within educator for expectant moms and their partners in the home, birth center or hospital setting on the San Francisco Peninsula. “Having an experienced woman by a laboring mom’s side recalls an earlier era when knowledgeable women served as a guide. This continuous support has been scientifically proven to reduce the need for interventions such as epidurals and other pain medications as well as the need for episiotomy and cesarean birth. To support a woman during this vital rite of passage and witness her discover her own power to give birth to a new human being, is a continually awe-inspiring and transforming experience,” said Sandy. Angie Carey WLC 02/01 , formerly of Agilent, is looking for a new career opportunity. Angie indicates that she has several years experience in the executive assistant role. She’s looking for a similar role but one that will stretch her further. She’s also interested in a possible role in Benefits Administration. Imagine the benefits of having Angie, an IWL alumna, as an executive assistant. Now, what would that allow for? Go for it, Angie. We’re with you! Cheryl Dahle WLC 12/02 announces that the book she co-authored, No Horizon is so Far, that documents two women’s landmark journey across Antarctica, is on bookshelves now. Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen, her co-authors, and the book’s subjects, will be doing a 10-city book tour, which includes a stop in San Francisco. They will be speaking and giving a “killer cool slide show” at the Commonwealth Club October 1st at 5:15 p.m. Diane Knorr WLC 07/02 “Last July, I left the Women Leading Change workshop inspired and determined to follow my vision to bring kids in foster care some joy and childhood fun,” shared Diane. “I wasn’t sure how I would do it or what it would look like, but I knew it was time, after 10 years in Corporate America, to take the leap and ‘step fully into my power’ as Rayona says. Fortified with Rayona’s voice in my ears and June Anderson, my coach, by my side, I started my journey. After months of research and development, I’m thrilled to introduce
Wonder, Inc., a nonprofit corporation I’ve
created to bring mentors and enrichment opportunities exclusively to kids
in foster care. It’s the first organization of its kind
in California. I have so many little stories about the people and blessings I’ve encountered during this past year. It truly seems that once you take the risk to follow your passion, amazing connections start to happen. Thank you for lighting the way! I’m looking forward to seeing you again in December for a little more Rayona magic. You’ve got a gift and I’m so glad you are willing to share it. Thank you!”
